Introduction
Nowadays, a trend of vocational
college student affairs management is changing from simple inculcating to the
combination of inculcating which is management and also service. So that, this
paper will discuss about issues and strategies that we have to change the mode of the vocational student management
to build an integrated and service oriented one. We also should further enhance
our awareness of legal and standardized management, and actively develop a
management group to adapt with management mode of student affairs. As we know,
student affair management is one part of TVET management and administration
functions.
2.0 Issues
Existing in Vocational College
In Chinese, there have several
problems that existing in Vocational college students affair management which
is too much emphasis on “sosial standard” values, inhibiting students’s
individual and creative development. So, it will making the students lack of
awareness of self-education, self design and others. Second, the multi-level
party and government co-management of vocational student management
organization mode leading to the unclearness of information. This mode only
focus on administrative function. Due to management many administrative levels,
it is not easy for them to know their rights which make a relatively narrow
management.
Third, focus on power rather than
rules, leading to the weak implementation of vocational student affairs
management. The management always making law and regulation invisible, and
finally makes the implementation not very good. Last but not least is the low
professional level of the workforce, leading to a lower degree of
specialization in vocational student affairs management. This is because,
vocational institutions require caunsellors to work more and in many areas so
that they have to bear heavy responsibilities (Ma&Teng&Jang, 2009).
3.0 Strategies
to Improve Student Affair Management
To overcome the
problems we need to reflect the “student-oriented” concept which means put serves student as an
important task. Automatically it can promote students ability in
self-management and self growth. Besides, we also should build a “ Flatting Mode” vocational college
student affairs management by widening management power to improve the response
speed of information. Then, we can promote people about civic and legal
awareness. Therefore, to effectively promote the management, we must improve
the staff, professional teachers and strictly regulate the education and
management behavior. On the other hand, we must focus on the professional
quality of services managers. For example, teachers should provide with
management training course aimed to improve their professional quality.
4.0 Conclusion
In a conclusion,
student affair management is important in vocational college because it is one of specific
TVET management functions for TVET management practice. Besides, in the process of building vocational
college student affairs management, we should consider the characteristic of the vocational college
and its student rather than completely copy the practice of the general
university. We should make efforts to strengthen the student affair management
of vocational college because this is one part of strategic planning.Strategic
planning is a complex and a participatory process designed to scan the
environment and create mission, vission
and strategies, capable to enhance institutional capacity and make the
vocational college more attractive and
competitive in the market. Strategic planning attempts to systematize the
process that enables an organization to attain its goals and objectives (Grant,
2003). The shift and changing of this mode cannot be finished in a short time,
it need to adapt to new circumtances and more service system of moral
cultivation, science and also technology innovation, learning guidance,
vocational guidance and the community service system of learning.
